Modern management may not have come as far as we think. While some leaders practice open communication and provide a creative and fun workplace, others are still unable to change their ways. The infographic below from Top Management Degrees compares the modern manager to slave owners.
Salve owners and modern managers have a few things in common -- neither will mingle with workers, are always demanding a higher level of input and rewards worker honesty, which encourages them to police each other.
However, management has changed drastically over the last century. In the early 1900s, employees were simply replaceable. In the 1920s, General Motors changed the workforce by decentralizing bureaucracy. By the 1990s, employers were dedicated to making employees not just productive, but also happy.
