Do you proactively mitigate sitting-induced stress during the workday? Most people I speak with don't -- it's just not something we think about. But we need to, because the mere act of sitting at your desk is stressing your body out.

[contextly_auto_sidebar id="JnbTmHbWsR35hWGugBxqj5Wl27CtZtLr"]Let me ask you something: do you believe that smoking a pack and a half cigarettes per day is harmful to your body and overall health? That's what we're doing to our bodies when we sit for five hours, according to David Agus, MD.

The Buffer blog has an excellent post with some of the things you can do to mitigate the harmful effects of sitting. Here's the Ridiculously Efficient summary:

  • If you can, invest in (and use, as much as you can) a standing desk or treadmill desk. Or try the Varidesk, which converts any desk into a standing desk.
  • If you must sit while you work, use an active chair.
  • Whether you use an active or traditional desk chair, get up and move around every 20 minutes.
