How Many Hours of the Day Do You Have Access to Your Phone?
How many hours of the day do you have access to your phone? How often do you check it? Do you jut crave to see who texted you or liked your Instagram photo every time your phone rings?
That little screen with texts, likes, comments, emails, and more is super addicting. Have you ever started texting and walked directly into something? Back in the day, kids would do that eating an ice cream cone. Today, kids do that holding an iPad.
Digital Trends reports, today around 92% of Americans own a cell phone of some sort. Of those people, 90% say their cell phone is frequently with them. The question becomes when are they helpful and when are they a hindrance?
When was the last time you pulled out your cell phone to send a quick text or email at a social gathering? Digital Trends reports that 89% of cell phone users admitted to using their cell phone at their most recent social gathering.
The next time you are at a team dinner or a social gathering, think of this article and engage everyone at the table to play a little game. Ask everyone to turn his or her phone on silent, but to leave the vibrator on. Then collect all of the phones and stack them one on top of the other and place them in the middle of the table. The first person to touch their phone loses and has to buy dinner for the entire table. Note people’s reactions throughout the night. At first everyone may seem jumpy or even a little edgy. As the night goes on, you will see people’s shoulders begin to drop as they relax and begin to open up, form connections and engage in genuine conversations.
Cell phones can be a blessing and a curse. Make sure you are using them to make yourself accessible, but not inaccessible to those sitting right in front of you.
