90 Percent of Managers Are Ineffective [STUDY]

An astounding 90 percent of managers are ineffective, according to a study published in "Business Strategy Review." When you also consider that ineffective leadership costs businesses an average of 7 percent of annual sales, you have a recipe for financial disaster.

Researchers Heike Bruch and Sumantra Ghoshal found that just 10 percent of the managers they studied took "decisive purposeful action" on a regular basis. Their other findings: Some 40 percent of managers were energetic but unfocused, 30 percent were prone to procrastination and had little focus and low energy, and 10 percent were lethargic yet focused.

Bruch and Ghoshal described most companies as "a few isolated islands of action amid an ocean of inaction." Does that remind you of your office, or other places you've worked?
