Meet Kelly: New Facebook Rules & Collector's Items
This week, learn more about Kelley as she talks about her large collection of movies and what she likes to snack one while she works.
1. When you were a child, what did you tell people you wanted to be when you grew up? Did you follow that dream, or did life take you in a different direction?
What I wanted to be has constantly evolved over the years. When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be a teacher. As I grew older and entered middle school and high school, I wanted to be an orthodontist. Once I entered college, I decided to take the business route. Business is what I knew best after growing up in a household with an entrepreneur.
I currently work in the business world, but find myself constantly wanting to share new ideas and teach people more affective ways of doing things. So today, I’ve taken all of the knowledge I’ve gained across different industries to be the most effective and bring value to various people and companies.
2. What do you think your life would be like if cellphones were never invented?
It’s hard to even think of a time before cellphones. I got my first cellphone when I was in 8th grade. My little brother got his first phone in 5th grade. Cellphones have always been a part of my life. In today’s world, having a phone and being easily accessible is expected. Going off the grid for a little while is unheard of and even frowned upon, occasionally. If cellphones were never invented, I strongly believe that people would’ve continued to find an alternative way to communicate. In some places, that means picking up the phone to call someone and asking the operator to connect you. In other places that means running a mile to your friends house because you said you would meet there at a specific place and time. People will always find a way to communicate and connect. Cell phones, just expedited that process and made it a lot easier to do so.
3. What is an item or collection of items you own in excess? Why do you have so much of it?
I own a lot of movies. Before you could record shows or digitally watch movies or your phone, computer, or smart TV, you would go see a movie in theatres, then wait 4-5 months for the movie to be released on VHS or DVD. My family always enjoyed watching movies together and that is still something that I collect and enjoy with friends and roommates today.
4. If you could create a rule for Facebook and other social media platforms, what would you ban from existence and why?
I would ban complaints without a solution. Some people use social media as a platform to rant and rave or share every last emotion. Don’t use it as a platform for self-pity or a place to just word-vomit. Use it as a platform to let your ideas be heard and actually help or inspire others. Use it as a platform to connect with those you may not get to see as often as you would like.
5. What is your favorite item to snack on while you are working, and are you less productive when it's not around to munch on?
I always have a bag of almonds with me. It is the perfect snack to share and, if you need just a little snack to get you through until lunch or dinner, it will do the trick. I like almonds, but they are not my favorite snack in the world, which is probably why I like to have them around while I’m working. I know that if I kept an endless supply of chocolate around, I’d end up eating too much of it and crash from all of the sugar.
