We all have certain routines when we begin the day -- whether that includes a workout, going over your schedule or getting caught up on industry news. However, how you end your day is just as important. Below are a few tips that will allow you to end your day productively.
Get Organized
Most of us procrastinate on our organizational projects. Whether it's cleaning off our desks or creating a new filing system, we should spend 20 minutes at the end of our workdays doing something to help us get organized. Even if you only have time to start the project, you'll still leave with a sense of accomplishment. By the end of the week, you'll begin to feel much lighter.
Brain Dump
If your mind is circling around different ideas, you'll find it hard to sleep at night. Instead of exhausting your mental energy, write everything down. Every task, every idea, every reminder -- write them all down. It gives your brain the ability to really rest, since it no longer has to remember all the small details.
Set Out Clothes, Make Lunch
Decision fatigue can hinder your productivity during the day. So, end your day by making smaller decisions that make your mornings a bit more seamless. Decide what you are going to wear the next day, make your lunch (or decide where you'll buy lunch) and make sure your briefcase is all packed and ready to go for the next day.
Get Unplugged
Just because you aren't actually at work, doesn't mean you stop working when you go home. It's almost impossible to avoid after-hours phone calls and emails. But, if you aren't careful, you can find yourself answering emails into the night. Give yourself a shut-down time an hour or two before bedtime. This will allow yourself time to de-stress and unwind before bed, allowing for a better sleep.
