We often think transformation requires a fresh start.
A bigger budget. A blank slate.
But some of the most creative, meaningful upgrades I’ve made—in work and life—didn’t start with “more.”
They started with less.
I’m writing this from my dream office: a beautiful Kithaus modular building with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, surrounded by flowering cherry trees we planted last spring. It’s peaceful, inspiring, and energizing in all the right ways.
But it wasn’t always this way.
For years, I worked in what we lovingly called “The Shedquarters”—a converted shed in our backyard.
Before that, it was the breezeway of my childhood bedroom—where people regularly walked through in the middle of my Zoom calls.
And before that? Our dining room table.
… No doors. No privacy. No ergonomic setup.
Each space felt scrappy. Temporary. Far from ideal.
But each one moved me forward.
Your Environment Shapes Your Evolution
We spend thousands on personal growth—courses, masterminds, coaches. But we often overlook the very environment we sit in every day.
That oversight quietly caps our growth.
No matter how powerful your mindset or strategy is, it’s constantly competing with the conditions around you.
I didn’t fully appreciate how much our space shapes our behavior until we started planning a renovation for our bedroom.
We brought in a contractor who quoted us $90,000 for a basic rectangular addition.
It felt like a lot of money for something… uninspired. Just a box.
That limitation forced us to rethink everything.
And that’s when we discovered Kithaus—a modular building made with sustainable materials and thoughtful, intentional design.
✔️ Floor-to-ceiling glass
✔️ Ipe hardwood floors
✔️ Sleek bathroom and closet
✔️ Wraparound ipe deck
✔️ Indoor-outdoor flow
All for $10,000 less than the original quote.
It wasn’t just cheaper. It was better.
More beautiful. More aligned. More us.
That decision didn’t just change the direction of our renovation—it changed how we approach every upgrade. In our home. Our work. Our life.
→ Not waiting for perfection.
→ Not freezing at the first limitation.
→ Choosing curiosity, creativity, and forward motion.
And when it came time to build my dream office, I knew exactly who to call.
You Don’t Need a Full Renovation—Just a Few Key Tweaks
Here’s the truth:
You don’t have to overhaul your entire space to feel better in it.
Here are 5 of my favorite science-backed upgrades (zero renovation required):
🌿 Nature in your line of sight = 15% better problem-solving and productivity
Place your desk near a window, or add a plant where your eyes naturally drift during the day.Greenery calms the nervous system and boosts creative thinking.
🌀 Fresh air = clearer thoughts
Your brain burns 20% of your body’s oxygen.
Every 90 minutes, take a 2-minute “air reset”: open a window, step outside, or use an air purifier.Bonus points for plants (like the snake plant) that purify your air.
🪑 Ergonomic alignment = less pain, more deep work
Your body sends hundreds of distress signals per hour when misaligned.
Set your elbows at 90°, raise your screen to eye level, and consider an ultrawide monitor to reduce scrolling strain.
👀 The 20-20-20 rule = protect your vision + focus
Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
It’s a tiny reset that preserves your energy and reduces fatigue.
I set a soft chime to remind me—gentle and effective.
🧘 Minimize distractions = maximize momentum
Distractions in your periphery sap your concentration.
If possible, position your workspace away from high-traffic areas, and add a “focus in progress” signal to protect your time without needing to explain.
Here’s the Reframe
Your current space may not look like your “dream.”
But it can still serve your growth.
What if the limitation you’re feeling… is actually an invitation?
To get resourceful.
To get creative.
To take the next small step—even if it’s not perfect.
✨ Add one visual cue that energizes you (a quote, a candle, a photo, a pop of color).
🌱 Remove one thing that drains your energy or focus.
🧠 Ask yourself: What would this space look like if it fully supported the person I’m becoming?
Just start where you are, with what you have.
And trust that each small shift will shape not only your space… but your Self.
Wishing you habitats that help you grow.
