Study Proves That Sleeping At Work Is Good For Productivity

Sometimes, a midday power nap is exactly what you need to get a quick surge of energy to ramp up your afternoon productivity. A recent study published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences proves that snoozing in the office is actually a good thing.

Researchers from the University of Michigan had 40 participants, aged 18 to 50, perform computer tasks and answer a series of questions about their moods and levels of tiredness. One group was allowed to take a nap for an hour, while the rest spent that time watching a nature video. All the participants kept a consistent sleep schedule for the three nights prior to the research. Afterwards, each group completed the same computer tasks they had earlier.

The participants that took a nap were less impulsive and less frustrated than those who watched the video.

"Our results suggest that napping may be a beneficial intervention for individuals who may be required to remain awake for long periods of time by enhancing the ability to persevere through difficult or frustrating tasks," said lead author Jennifer Goldschmied.

Taking a nap at work can ease your tension and give you a greater ability to focus through less desirable tasks. Try it the next time your eyes are starting to feel heavy at your desk!
