Are Offices Obsolete?

© hacohob - Fotolia With the technology that is coming online today, the traditional cubicle office format is slowly fading away. And I say good riddance! Since leaving the traditional office space in 2007, my productivity levels have soared and I find myself able to maintain focus easily in my home office. With millennials projected to make up half of the workforce by 2020, it seems certain that traditional offices will be phased out. Although increased productivity is one of the biggest reasons I enjoyed the shift away from a traditional office space, there are other reasons why it is attractive to both employers and employees.

Aside from saving money on rent, organizations attract top talent by advertising remote workplace options. New employees like the idea of being able to complete work in the comfort of their chosen workplace, whether it is at home or at a co-working space. Another beauty of working remotely is the time saved from the lack of a commute. You'd be surprised by what you can do with this extra half-hour! My favorite part of the shift from the traditional office space is the increase in productivity. With numerous reports proving that employees work more efficiently from locations other than the office, it makes sense to pursue a workplace that makes you comfortable.

We live in a fast-paced world where everything is constantly changing. Luckily, technology allows us to keep up, and in this case increase our productivity by working remotely. If you are still commuting to a cubicle each day, I encourage you to pursue working remotely and give your productivity a chance to blossom!
