5 Healthy Ways to Boost Productivity

Office Workout Becoming more productive is more than just organizing a few to-do lists and creating a nice workspace. It involves changing your entire lifestyle, right down to the foods you eat and how much sunshine you get. If you want to become more productive in 2014, here are a few health tips to set you on the right track.

1. Decrease your sugar intake. Sugar might send you on a buzzing high, but will eventually have you crashing after sucking out all your energy. Start decreasing your intake of foods like fruity yogurts, high-sugar caffeinated beverages and morning pastries. Even attempt to decrease your fruit intake until you've managed to level out your blood sugar. You'll see a difference in your energy level pretty quickly.

2. Drink lots of water. Most people don't drink the suggested amount of water every day. However, even the smallest amount of dehydration can cause you to lose energy and feel groggy. If you're not getting enough water, try drinking a glass before every meal and snack. Also keep a reusable water bottle with you at your desk.

3. Get enough sleep. If you're tired, your brain can't function properly. Make sure your body is getting enough rest to recharge and tackle the next day. If you are always feeling tired and sluggish, give yourself a routine by going to bed at the same time every night and waking up at the same time every morning.

4. Get enough exercise. Many of us have jobs that have us sitting in a chair for hours on end. Counteract this by getting enough physical activity in your downtime. The endorphins alone will give you more energy and improve your mood. Exercise is also known to be a great stress reliever and can get those creative juices flowing as well.

5. Eat more healthy fats. Not all fat is bad. Some can actually help improve your metabolism, regulate your blood sugar and provide you with slew of nutrients. Omega-3 fatty acids are a great way to keep you energized throughout the day. Try adding small amounts of foods like walnuts, ground flax seed and salmon to your diet.
