Alex and Ani: The Value of Hard Work
For a company that has gone from sales of $4.5 million in 2010 to $200 million in 2013, the recipe for success for jewelry retailer Alex and Ani is no secret. CEO Giovanni Feroce knows that his company can only maintain their level of success if they have a workforce who is completely dedicated to the brand.
In a recent article, Feroce explained the hiring process for Alex and Ani. When prospective employees are interviewed, they sit in a room with a white board. On the white board are the numbers 0%, 75%, and 100%. Feroce then explains to employees that working between these levels will not be acceptable. 125% is needed from every employee, all the time. This is what sets Alex and Ani apart from other jewelry companies.
In today's workforce, the majority of employees are satisfied by putting forth 75%. In order to have the most productive and efficient enterprise possible, it is essential that you seek out those employees who put out 125% day in and day out. This is how Alex and Ani have grown to be the second largest retailer per square foot in the US, behind only Apple. If you want to take your business to the next level, you have to have employees who are wholeheartedly committed to going with you.
